Jefferson Elementary Ready for its $14.8M Modernization

The Everett School District is ready to begin accepting bids for their latest school improvement project, the modernization of Jefferson Elementary School.  The construction budget of $14.8M is funded by the voter-approved 2006 bond, and will provide 61,035 sq. ft. of modernized area to better serve the needs of the students and faculty.

The project is scheduled to be completed early Spring 2011.

A Site Development package is being completed under a separate contract. The District is currently accepting bids for the Building Modernization and Addition. The project includes the demolition of six classroom areas, as well as part of the library/administration building. The construction of two new classroom areas is planned; one single-story classroom/admin building and a two-story classroom area will both be constructed adjacent to the existing library. Together these will create one unified building and provide 21 new classroom spaces, totaling 42,069 square feet.

Nearly 10,000 square feet of existing gymnasium and cafeteria space will be modernized, and a 1,240 sq. ft. kindergarten play area will also be added, with special attention given to security and accessibility.

These design improvements will re-direct circulation from exterior walkways to interior spaces and provide the building with adequate classroom technology, something that was undeveloped when the building was created nearly fifty years ago.

The metal and wood framed buildings will be clad with lap siding, concrete masonry veneer, and capped with asphalt composition shingle roofs.

The project architect is Cynthia Black of Hutteball & Oremus Architecture. Other design team members include PACE, Civil Engineer; Hargis Engineers, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers; PCS Structural Solutions, Structural Engineers; and Thomas Rengstorf Associates, Landscape Architects.
